SENSATEC AFRICA

Affordable and reliable groundwater compliance

Sensatec Africa brings together the long solution specific expertise with local
knowledge to service the African market.

A value-adding contractor

We bring OEM in-situ remediation plants, monitoring- and management technologies to your site and take care of the operations, maintenance and remediation management on your behalf.

Our multidisciplinary scientific engineering team has the capacity to drive or contribute towards site-specific investigations, analyses and solution design and adjustment processes.

Solutions for African conditions

Affordable and reliable groundwater quality that is environmentally compliant – you pay for the outcome, not pumps and pipes.

As a semi-passive and low energy consuming methodology – strong contribution towards ESG’s and Zero Carbon.

In-Situ Remediation

Applicability: Contaminated soil and groundwater

In-Situ Remediation means that the contamination challenge is resolved underground by injecting safe reagents to trigger and accelerate bio-chemical remediation processes.

As a rule, there will be no need to excavate or pump-and-treat. We offer a low risk phased approach to determine the solutions suitability and business case.

  • Reactive barriers
  • Source zone remediation

By far the most cost-effective method for contaminated soil- and groundwater.

In-organic Contaminants

Industries: Mining, industrial, bulk water supply

Mine-water contaminated groundwater origin is typically from tailings storage facilities, waste rock dumps or processing operations. Contaminations are often characterised by elevated sulphate, nitrate, metals and metalloids. Inorganic contaminants can also come for example from industry, wastewater infrastructure or unimproved sanitation.

Sensatec can stop the contamination plume from advancing by implementing a reactive and permeable barrier – where the contamination is neutralized or immobilized while the safe water continues its flow.

Sensatec can target the source zones for lasting solutions.

By far the most cost-effective method for contaminated soil- and groundwater.

Organic Contaminants

Industries: Petrochemical, industrial

Organic contaminants origin is typically in industrial operations and their value chain. Contaminations are often characterised by hydrocarbons, petroleum hydrocarbons, chlorinated solvents, pesticides, herbicides, PFAS and similar contaminants.

Sensatec implement a reactive and permeable barrier to prevent plume from advancing or targets the source zone directly at contaminated sites.

By far the most cost-effective method for contaminated soil- and groundwater.

Toolbox and OEM Technologies

In-Situ Bio-remediation

  • Direct gas injection (O2; H2, CH4)
  • Anaerobic bioremediation (organic carbon injections)
  • Bio-augmentation
  • Thermally enhanced microbiology

In-Situ Chemical remediation

  • ISCO-Technology (Fenton‘s, Permanganate, Persulfate or Ozone)
  • Carrier gas injection of Oxidant Aerosols

In-Situ Physical remediation

  • Geo- and Solar energy based contaminant mobilization
  • Contaminant solubilisation of free product
  • Targeted solids replacement

Any combination of the above OR combining with other methodologies.

Other Solutions and Services

Design and Proof-of-Concept (POC) studies

  • Geological characteristics over depth.

Understanding the plume dimensions and movement as well as source and site characteristics.

Laboratory and site proof of concept

  • Laboratory reactivity and feasibility testing (microcosm, soil column, DNA sequencing).
  • Site reactivity testing with existing borehole infrastructure and real conditions.

Evidence of remediation, confidence of viability and blueprint for solution design.

Microbial cultures and cultivation for bioaugmentation

  • Existing cultures and cultivation of site specific naturally occurring microbes.

Sensor technologies and remote monitoring

  • Sensors based on scope specific needs, remote monitoring, maintenance and reporting.

NOTE:
Investigation work is available for our own remediation projects only. We do not offer stand-alone consultancy services.
